We're heading into February and employers are already looking to hire their seasonal help. Everyday I work with small business owners and start ups to create long term plans to be successful and make money doing something that they love doing. In an additional effort to support the small business community and connect them with potential employees, I want you to use the hashtag #HelpwantedMV. If you are an employer or someone looking for a job, hashtag your posts to connect on your social media channels.
Additional note for potential employees! Make sure your social media accounts are a good reflection of who you are. You'd think this was a no-brainer since I taught my 15 year old son about social media presence and how it may impact your future years ago....but so many adults still don't get it! An employer is going to Google you before hiring you anyway, so go ahead and clean up those social media accounts now, okay?

Whenever I hear "I have a dream", the first thing I think of is Martin Luther King Jr's famous speech and the impact that it had on the world. One person with a dream. With great courage. And conviction.
What are your dreams? Close your eyes and think about a world where people are living their dreams every day. Personal dreams. Dreams for our society. All of our neighbors living a life of what lies in our hearts. Okay so now, actually close your eyes and just think about it.
What are your dreams? Take a moment right now to really get a clear one in your mind. Are you taking the necessary steps to manifest that dream? Dreams are our dangling carrots. They are what propel us forward in life. When we let our dreams fade, we lose our childlike wonderment of the world. It can be easy in our fast paced society to become distracted from what's really important.....don't.
MLK, Ghandhi, Nelson Mandela....some of our greatest and most inspiring leaders devoted their lives to their dreams. If we could manifest in our own lives a fraction of that conviction we could move mountains. Or at least small hills. They fought for our peace and for our freedom. They fought with their lives and stayed true to their beliefs until their last breath. The best way we can show respect and give tribute, is when we live to our own greatest potential. We owe it to those that came before us and future generations to make our mark on the world whatever that mark may be. Be it within our family, our community or the world that surrounds us.
Think about this as you go about your days. How can we manifest our dreams? How can we inspire each other? How can we remain focused amidst daily distractions? These are a few questions that I am hoping we can answer together.
Dream the biggest dream
Your dreams grow wings and fly far
Way beyond the sun

Even if you didn't watch the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday night, I have no doubt that most of the world saw Oprah's acceptance speech in their social media feeds. She blew minds and empowered women and girls in a span of about 9 minutes. So now what are you going to do with all of that inspiration? How can you apply Oprah type strategies to your own life so that Oprah's 9 minute impact on you is not lost?
You can start by being unapologetically yourself. Stop giving a damn about what anyone thinks about you. Be authentic and live and speak your truths. One of my biggest pet peeves is how women like to say that they want to empower other women, and yet do the complete opposite and tear each other down in the same breath. The only thing you are empowering when you do this is your ego and visible insecurities. So stop it. When I come to the table, what you see is what you get. I'm professional, I'm thorough and I'm a bad-ass that has no problem saying no. And I'm not sorry for any of it. When someone tells you no....go ahead and find your yes.
Break barriers and never stop fighting for what you believe in. Help people without seeking recognition for it. Give, without expecting something back in return. Fight for social justices, even if you are the only one holding a sign on the street corner. Everything we do makes a difference, even if we only impact our neighbor. That's still making change in the world.
Don't let a man, or anyone else for that matter, determine your self worth. Speak up and be heard. Look at yourself in the mirror and tell yourself how awesome you are, because you are. Don't ever let anyone tell you that you are less than. It took one woman to say "me too" before women everywhere found the courage to do so. Let's support our fellow women and strive for a lot less me-too's. Shall we?
A new day is without a doubt, on the horizon.

The definition of the word "Resolution" is: A firm decision to do or not do something and the action of solving a problem or dispute. To have the intent to resolve a bad habit or set goals is usually a great thing, but the pressure we put upon ourselves to start resolving because it is January 1st often comes with pressure, disappointment and unrealistic expectations.
New Year's Eve has always been bittersweet and a mix of emotions for me. New Year's Eve of 2006 was my very first date with my husband. So for us, it's like celebrating an anniversary. On the flip-side, I love the holiday and Christmas season so much that I hate to see it end one minute, but once it is over, I also start looking forward to warm summer beach days. And then I do a self-audit of everything I've accomplished or not accomplished the year prior. And regardless of how much I've accomplished, the idea is that the next year will always be better. Oh yeah, and did I mention I also have a January birthday? Indeed. So the plot and pressure thickens.
I don't ever hear anyone say "Last year was so amazing, I just don't know how I can top that". If you are someone who does say that, then kudos my friend. I welcome that kind of positive energy in my life. It's usually more along the lines of "bye, see ya-later....can't wait to see you go....let's start over". Year after year. New Year's Day is really just an annual Monday, filled with hope and new visions that are often forgotten by Thursday.
So what can we do to put less pressure on ourselves, so that when January 1st 2019 comes around we feel a little more content with where we are in our lives? For me, I am going to try to stop lying about my age and own the fact that I am going to be 30 this year. I mean....40. Once I come to grips with that, I am going to set daily and realistic goals for the quality of life of me and my family. I truly believe that consistency is key with everything we want to accomplish. We wouldn't need to rush to the gym on January 2nd if we were already active most days throughout the year, right? Let's take the pressure off of the annual resolutions and set monthly, weekly and daily goals for ourselves year-round. Let's stop making the New Year another Monday do-over.
How do you feel about resolutions? What are you doing differently this year? Let us know in the comments below and share this conversation with your friends.

The Northeast is getting slammed today with crazy wind and snow totals that are supposed to amount to many. Better known as a "Nor'easter". Yesterday everyone ran around in a panic for their milk, bread and wine so that they could hibernate and sit back and watch what the Snow Meiser had in store for them today. New Year gym and low-carb resolutions are temporarily out the window because crispy lettuce and cucumbers are chilly and fresh baked blueberry and banana muffins turn into warm blankets of comfy goodness.
So what can you do to stay productive during a weekday storm so that you don't feel like total slackers and diet crashers? Here are 5 productive things to do during a snow storm besides eat and drink yourselves into oblivion.
1.) Read an inspiring book. Dr. Brene Brown and Adam Grant are a couple of authors that I turn to when I need motivation or a boost in productivity. Look at your dusty bookshelf and see if there are any books that you bought and "intended" to read but they are still sitting there aging like some tasty Double Gloucester cheddar cheese.
2.) Organize your surroundings. That stack of messy bills on the corner of your table, the Christmas decorations that still need to be put away, that home office that you haven't been working in because the Feng Shui energy is so bad in there that you just might get electrocuted. Whatever you've been avoiding, take care of it today and not only will you feel better right now, but it will make you so much more productive tomorrow.
3.) Learn something new. If you still have electricity on in your house log-on and watch a webinar or stream an enlightening podcast. What's on your 2018 list of things you want to learn or be better at? Oh you don't have a list yet? Write a list and then log-on and start that educational process now.
4.) Write thank you letters. Who did you forget to thank in 2017? Who brought over Christmas cookies or homemade jam in December? Think of everyone that you forgot to thank last year, make a list and start writing. Good ol' pen and paper. Step away from the keyboard slowly.
5.) Netflix a documentary. If you haven't seen Thirteenth yet, I highly suggest you add it to your watch list ASAP. It will blow your mind. After you've watched a documentary or two you can go back to binge watching Orange is the New Black if you want to. You'll feel less guilty about doing "nothing".
